An email blocklist is a database of IP addresses or domains flagged for sending spam; mailbox providers check these lists and may reject or spam-filter mail from any sender that appears on one.
How blocklists work
A blocklist (also called a blacklist or DNSBL) is a real-time database of sending sources — IPs or domains — associated with spam. When mail arrives, the receiving server can query one or more blocklists; if your sending IP or domain is listed, the message may be rejected outright or routed to spam.
Some blocklists are widely trusted and used by major providers; others carry little weight. A listing on a major one can sharply cut your inbox placement until it's resolved.
