Connect a sending domain
Email is sent from your own domain, under your reputation. Authenticating it with SPF, DKIM and DMARC is what gets you into the inbox instead of spam. Climails generates every record for you — you just publish them at your DNS provider.
What you'll need
- Access to your domain's DNS (registrar or DNS provider)
- A subdomain you'll send from, e.g. mail.yourbrand.com
- Admin access to your Climails workspace
Add the domain
- 1
Open Settings → Sending domains
From the left sidebar open Settings, then the Sending domains tab.
- 2
Click “Add domain”
Enter the subdomain you want to send from, for example mail.yourbrand.com. A dedicated subdomain keeps your root domain's reputation separate.
- 3
Choose a tracking subdomain
Climails proposes a tracking subdomain for open/click links (e.g. t.yourbrand.com). Accept it or set your own.
Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC
After you add the domain, Climails shows the exact DNS records to create. Copy each one into your DNS provider as-is.
- SPF — a TXT record authorizing Climails to send for your domain.
- DKIM — one or more CNAME/TXT records that cryptographically sign every message.
- DMARC — a TXT record that tells inbox providers what to do with unauthenticated mail (start with p=none to monitor).
Verify
- 1
Click “Verify” on the domain card
Climails re-checks your DNS and updates each record's status.
- 2
Wait for “verified”
When SPF, DKIM and DMARC all read verified, the domain status flips to verified and it becomes selectable when sending.
Warm up and send
A brand-new domain has no sending history. Start with lower volumes to engaged contacts and ramp up over the first couple of weeks so inbox providers learn to trust you.
Once verified, the domain appears in the From selector on every campaign and is used automatically for API sends from that address.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my root domain instead of a subdomain?
You can, but a dedicated subdomain (mail.yourbrand.com) is strongly recommended — it isolates marketing reputation from your corporate email and is easier to manage.
Do I need DMARC?
It's optional to start, but inbox providers increasingly require it. Begin with p=none to monitor, then tighten to quarantine/reject once your sources are aligned.
Why is my DKIM still failing?
Almost always a copy-paste issue: a trailing dot, a duplicated root domain, or the record placed on the wrong host. Re-check the exact host and value shown on the domain card.
